Ce este rodiul

Rodiul este unul dintre cele mai prețioase metale din lume, cu platină, paladiu, ruteniu, iridiu și osmiu, face parte dintr-un grup de elemente numite metale din grupa platinei.

Aceste metale au proprietăți fizice și chimice similare, dar rodiul este cel mai rar și mai valoros dintre toate. Nu există mine de rodiu pur, dar rodiul este obținut exclusiv ca produs secundar al activităților miniere de platină și nichel.

Cum are loc placarea cu rodiu

După curățarea și rafinarea atentă a bijuteriei, aceasta este scufundată într-o soluție pe bază de rodiu ( baie galvanică ). Acest proces de electroliză conferă bijuteriei un strat foarte subțire de rodiu, de obicei de 1 micron.

Placarea cu rodiu a obiectelor din aur și argint nu are doar o funcție estetică, ci permite și protejarea acestora de oxidare și uzură.

Totuși, trebuie avut în vedere faptul că, întrucât există un strat foarte subțire de rodiu care acoperă bijuteria, este posibil ca aceasta să se uzeze în timp, și prin urmare bijuteria să-și piardă strălucirea dată de placarea cu rodiu.
