¿Qué es el baño de rodio y por qué se aplica a las joyas?

¿Qué es el rodio?

El rodio es uno de los metales más preciosos del mundo, junto con el platino, paladio, rutenio, iridio y osmio, forma parte de un grupo de elementos llamados metales del grupo del platino.

Estos metales tienen propiedades físicas y químicas similares, pero el rodio es el más raro y valioso de todos. No existen minas de rodio puro, pero el rodio se obtiene exclusivamente como subproducto de las actividades mineras de platino y níquel.

Cómo se realiza el baño de rodio

Después de limpiar y refinar cuidadosamente la joya, se sumerge en una solución a base de rodio ( baño galvánico ). Este proceso de electrólisis confiere a la joya una capa muy fina de rodio, normalmente de 1 micra.

El baño de rodio de los objetos de oro y plata no sólo tiene una función estética sino que también permite protegerlos de la oxidación y el desgaste.

Sin embargo, hay que tener en cuenta que al haber una capa muy fina de rodio que recubre la joya, es posible que con el tiempo se desgaste, y por tanto la joya pierda el brillo que le daba el baño de rodio.

Tenga en cuenta Precisamente por este motivo, no recomendamos el baño de rodio en joyas o relojes de oro amarillo o rosa para que parezcan oro blanco.

Limpieza

Está absolutamente prohibido limpiar las joyas rodiadas con paños o líquidos abrasivos, ya que estos agentes podrían desgastar el baño de rodio . Si bien se recomienda utilizar un paño suave humedecido únicamente con agua fría.

Consejos de cuidado

Se recomienda no usar joyas de oro en la playa y, por tanto, en contacto con agua salada o dulce, no dejar las joyas expuestas al sol durante un período prolongado y evitar en la medida de lo posible los impactos.
