Che cos'è il rodio

Il rodio è uno dei metalli più preziosi al mondo, con platino, palladio, rutenio, iridio e osmio, fa parte di un gruppo di elementi denominati metalli del gruppo del platino.

Questi metalli hanno proprietà fisiche e chimiche simili, ma il rodio è il più raro e pregiato in assoluto. Non esistono miniere di rodio puro,bensì il rodio è ottenuto esclusivamente come sottoprodotto delle attività di estrazione di platino e nichel.

Come avviene la rodiatura

Dopo aver accuratamente pulito e rifinito il gioiello, si immerge in una soluzione a base di rodio (bagno galvanico). Questo processo di elettrolisi conferisce al gioiello un sottilissimo strato di rodio, solitamente 1 micron. 

La rodiatura di oggetti in oro e argento non ha solamente una funzione estetica ma consente anche di proteggerli dall’ossidazione e dall’usura.

Però è da tenere in considerazione che essendo un sottilissimo strato di rodio che ricopre il gioiello, è possibile che con il tempo si consuma, e quindi il gioiello perde quella lucentezza che era stata conferita dalla Rodiatura.

Nota Bene Proprio per questo motivo sconsigliamo di effettuare la rodiatura a gioielli o orologi in oro giallo o rosa per far sì che sembrino in oro bianco.

Pulizia

E' assolutamente vietato pulire i gioielli rodiati con panni o liquidi abrasivi, in quanto questi agenti potrebbero portare via la Rodiatura. Mentre è consigliato usare un panno morbido inumidito solo con acqua fredda.

Consigli per la cura

Si raccomanda di non indossare assolutamente i gioielli in oro al mare e quindi a contatto con acqua salata o acqua dolce, non lasciare il gioiello esposto al sole per un periodo prolungato ed evitare il più possibile gli urti.
